The combination of a huge crash of cyclists, and several climbs (including a difficult climb at the finish of the 159.5 kilometers) kept the sprinters from vying for the win in stage 3 of the Tour. This was a day for the climbers and stronger riders -- and Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver of Spain won the stage. Christopher Froome of Great Britain finished second and Alexis Viullermoz of France finished third.

Stage 4 will take the race back to France on a much less mountainous course. There is one category 4 climb, but most of the course is just hilly.
